Jean Gabin

Jean Gabin was a French actor and sometime singer. Considered a key figure in French cinema, he starred in several classic films including Pp le Moko , La grande illusion , Le Quai des brumes , La bte humaine , Le jour se lve , and Le plaisir . Gabin was made a member of the Lgion dhonneur, due to the important role he played in French Cinema.

Gabin was born JeanAlexis Moncorg in Paris, the son of Madeleine Petit and Ferdinand Moncorg, a cafe entertainer whose stage name was Gabin. He grew up in the village of Mriel in the SeineetOise dpartement, about 22160mi north of Paris. The son of cabaret entertainers, he attended the Lyce Janson de Sailly. Leaving school early, he worked as a laborer until the age ofwhen he entered show business with a bit part in a Folies Bergres production. He continued performing in a variety of minor roles before going into the military.
